What is Laminate?

Laminate flooring is made of four layers of materials pressed together to create an exceptionally hard wearing floor that is available in a multitude of designs and colours.


The core of a laminate floor consists of high density fibreboard - a pressed wood product that is extremely dense, and provides stability for the finished board. This fibreboard is bonded with a melamine layer, which provides further stability and a moisture barrier.


A high resolution printed timber image is laid on top, which is then coated with multiple layers of transparent melamine designed to resist wear and tear and provide exceptional resistance to fading and staining.


Laminate floors are every bit as durable as hardwood timber. These floors offer extraordinary wear resistance characteristics and a timberlook floor covering that is scratch resistant, indentation resistant, fade resistant and stain resistant. This makes laminate flooring a very economical floor covering, and an ideal choice of flooring for heavy war areas.

How is a Laminate Floor Installed?

Laminate flooring is installed on an acoustic foam underlay over suitable sub-floors. This process is useful in older timber homes or where the sub-floor is uneven and rough.


This type of floor can be installed over other floor coverings as long as they have been securely laid. It is important to have of our professionals visit your home to determine the suitability of any sub-floor.

The ends and sides of the boards are cut at a slight angle to create a small bevel. This is another feature added to make the floor look more timber like.
